Maintenance of the Epson printer (XP, ET/Ecotank, SX, WF) waste ink pad, error code E-11
In Epson printers (XP, ET/EcoTank, SX, WF), you may encounter the error "The ink pad needs to be serviced. Please contact Epson." or the error code E-11.
This is due to the ink pads becoming full. At this point, printing cannot be continued at all because of the error.
The purpose of the pads is to store excess ink inside the printer. If printing were to continue after the pads become full, printer ink could overflow inside the printer and eventually outside of it.
The error will not go away on its own, and printing will not be successful until the ink pads have been serviced.
The ink pads are serviced by first removing their reservoir from the printer.
After that, the ink pads are carefully washed and allowed to dry completely.
After drying, the pads are placed back into the printer and the waste ink pad counter is reset via the computer.
Without resetting the counter, printing cannot continue even if the pads have been cleaned.
After these steps, the Epson printer functions normally again.
Service is only needed the next time when the printer has printed as much as before servicing. (depending on usage, usually after several years).
We have heard from our customers that Epson support has only advised purchasing a new printer instead of servicing, and the service option has not even been offered.
One customer told us that Epson has offered servicing for 200 euros.

Instructions for resetting the counter via remote support. You will need a computer to which the printer is connected via USB cable and an internet connection.
1. Download the remote support software (Anydesk).
You can download it from this link. Anydesk saves by default in the “Downloaded Files” folder.

Before that, connect the printer to the computer via USB cable and open Anydesk.
Power on the printer, connect it to the computer with a USB cable and open the Anydesk.exe that you downloaded from the downloaded files or another storage location. Nothing else needs to be done 😊
