Canon Pixma MG3550 - paper feed roller replacement

Wear of the paper feed rollers can mean that an otherwise fully functional printer ends up in the junkyard.

The wear of the paper feed rollers manifests itself in that the printer no longer takes paper when printing or copying. Sometimes the printer may only take paper if there is a certain amount of paper in the paper tray. Printers should be able to take paper even if there is only one sheet in the paper tray. If your printer is experiencing similar issues, it may be time to replace the printer's paper feed rollers.

The same rollers are also used in other MG3000 series printers.

To replace the rollers, the printer must be nearly completely disassembled. Here is the printer before disassembly.

First, remove both side plastics and the protective film from the control panel.

Next, the switch panel and cables will be detached.

The printer's network card must be removed in order to detach the scan level.

Next, we will remove the previously mentioned scanning level using the release tool.

The back of the printer reveals a maintenance door, behind which are the old paper feed rollers.

In this image, you can see the paper feed rollers, one of which has been removed, and a new one has been installed in its place.

Here is a comparison of the new (left)   and old (right) paper feed roll.
The image shows how the folds of the new paper feed roll are stronger, while those of the old one are dirty and smooth. Because of these small rubber parts, many otherwise functioning printers become unusable and end up in the scrap heap.

After this, the printer was assembled.

After maintenance, Canon took the paper without any issues, and the customer was satisfied 🙂
